1985: Undefeated Freshmen
Earn Trip to Henley
In 1985, Georgetown's Freshmen Heavyweight Crew had an undefeated season, including a gold medal at the Dad Vail Regatta. In recognition of their success, the University sent six freshmen and two members of the varsity team to Henley. Georgetown raced in the Reading Regatta and the Temple Challenge Cup at the Henley Royal Regatta. In the first round, Georgetown lost to a crew who went on to win the event.
The members of the 1985 team were: Mike O'Brien (stroke), Rudy Ruggles (7), Glenn Harcsar (6), Mike McCann (5), Tom Petzold (4), Ulrik Grape (3), Darrin Crispin (2), and Tim McCann (bow). The team was coached by Michael Murphy and JJ Forster.
