Heavyweight Men Fall to Rutgers

March 28, 2004

On March 28, the crew traveled to New Brunswick, NJ and the Raritan River to face Rutgers. The Hoyas split the four races with the Scarlet Knight crews with the Rutgers varsity taking the first and second varsity eight events and the novice eight events while Georgetown took the first and second frosh/novice eight events.

Both varsity boats faced very strong Rutgers crews in their races. The Rutger's varsity eight returned 7 of 8 rowers from last year's crew that made it to the final of the Ladies' Challenge Plate at the Henley Royal Regatta as well as the grand final of the Eastern Sprints and their speed and experience was evident off the start as the Rutgers crew led from the start despite choppy conditions and a tough head wind.

The second varsity eight event went similarly with Rutgers' depth being evident in cruising to a large victory.

In the men's novice eights races, both Georgetown crews led from the start and powered their way through the tough conditions on the Raritan to pick up their first collegiate win.
