Cornell Defeats Georgetown Heavy Men

April 3, 2004

On April 3, the Hoyas traveled to Princeton to race Cornell on Lake Carnegie. The Hoyas fell in all events except for the novice men's eight race. Cornell had been coming off their first full week of practice on the water after spring break after having to go back on the ergs for a week before their race with Michigan and Marist and in their 5 seat's words, were able to "gain a lot of speed" in that week. The Georgetown varsity eight was with Cornell or the first 500 and even took 2 to 3 seats off the start from Cornell but were unable to match the power of Cornell as the crews settled to race cadence at around 35 beats per minute.

The lone win for Georgetown came from the novice men's eight that recorded the first win over a Cornell boat in recent memory. The novices rowed a tough and hard race to win by a boat length in a gutsy performance over a very solid crew in the Cornell boat.
