Worchester, MA– Georgetown placed fifth at the BIG EAST Women’s Rowing Challenge at Lake Quinsigamond on Sunday afternoon. Notre Dame won four of seven events to claim the overall regatta title.

The Georgetown novice women won both the first and second eights events. The first novice eight won in a convincing manner with an open water victory over Miami, Notre Dame, and five other conference rivals.

Georgetown’s lightweight women were represented only in the Novice 4 event, where they finished third in a three boat race. There were no separate lightweight events.

Led by its four individual event titles, Notre Dame piled up 116 points. Miami finished second with 92 points, while Syracuse (82), Rutgers (74) and Georgetown (73) rounded out the top five.

The BIG EAST Conference sponsored the women's rowing challenge in 2004 for the fourth time. Only institutions with women's varsity programs (no club programs) were allowed to compete in this event.
