GRA Hosts Reception in New York City

The Georgetown Rowing Association held a Pre-Season Reception on Thursday, February 24, 2005 at Sotheby's in New York City. Over forty alumni and supporters of Georgetown Crew braved a blizzard to hear about the latest in GU Crew from Head Coach Tony Johnson. Acting GRA President Drew Screiber B'86 was also on hand to update the group on the latest in GRA Fundraising and Events.

Our host Bill Sheridan arranged to have the head of the 19th century European art division lead a brief tour of the paintings hanging in the room. After that the head of the auction unit explained the method by which the art is delivered to Sotheby’s and sold to collectors and the public. The paintings in the room were valued at between several hundred thousand to several million dollars each. We’ve had the NYC reception in a number of interesting locations in the city, but this was by far the most interesting location yet.

Thank you to Bill Sheridan P'04, '07 who graciously opened Sotheby's for GRA to hold the event. Thank you to those who sposored the event: Alex Bea C'01, Alexandra Coolidge F'01, Bob Gasser F'86, Geoff Fitzgerald C'86, Lynne Kosobucki C'83, L'88, Peter Moley C'89, M'96, Matt Sippel, C'86, Cathy Symon C'93, and JP Van Arsdale B'01.
