Meet the Coaches and Captains!
On Saturday, Feb. 26, a group of thirty-five student-athletes and alumni gathered on campus for a Meet the Coaches & Captains Lunch. A nice mix of alums from the 70s, 80s, 90s and 00s gathered on the first day the crew got back on the Potomac.
Head coach Tony Johnson gave a preview of the upcoming season and the outlook for the crews. He highlighted the Eastern Sprints medal opportunities for the men’s and women’s lightweight eights and the commented on the improvement in the men’s heavyweight and women’s open weight crews. A strong influx of young rowers will help both crews this season and in the next several years. Tony also noted that over one hundred fifty student-athletes and coaches will be heading to Clemson, SC, for training over Spring Break.
Acting GRA President Drew Schreiber highlighted a number of alumni initiatives.
GRA purchased twenty-five new ergs for the additional workout space the
crew has acquired on campus at Yates Field House. Drew also talked about
the planning for the celebration of thirty years of women’s rowing
at Georgetown. Carolyne Dilgard-Clark (’99) and a group of women
met for dinner after the NYC reception to continue the planning which
lead to a number of events in the 2005-06 season. Finally, Drew highlighted
a number of races where the alumni are looking forward to working with
the parents to support the crew. The first race - and the only time in
Spring ‘05 that all four squads is racing at the same location –
is at the Jesuit Invitational in Camden/Philly on Saturday, March 19th.
We will have a big tent set up and Drew encouraged all east coast alumni
to come cheer on the crew. More specific information on the event will
be sent by email and posted on this web site.
